Google Local For Small Businesses

Do you know that you can promote small businesses on Google for free? There are 3 prominent ways to get traffic from the giant search engines.

The first way is to buy traffic from Google Adwords. Adwords is a pay per click advertising program. It based on keyword bidding. If you have conducted your keyword research, you should have a list of keywords to target. In other words, whenever someone uses one of those keywords to make a search in Google, you want your site to appear near the top of the search results. Adwords can allow you to do that, but you must bid high enough in order to appear at the top of the page. You don’t pay anything if the visitors don’t click on your ads.

The second way is by search engine optimization. Using a process that is commonly known as SEO, your website appears high up in the search results for your target keywords. Once you rank well in the search engines, you will receive free organic traffic. You don’t have to pay for the web visitors. SEO can take a little time for results to show, because you have to wait for Google to update their data centers. But it’s a great way to drive highly targeted traffic for the long term.

The third method is less known among small business owners. If you own a physical business, you can get ranked at the top of Google without having to pay a single cent. Google has an application that is known as Google Local. This app is built specifically for listing businesses. You can see how it works by making a search for any product or service, but be sure to include the location. For example, try searching for “Dentist service, New York”. You will immediately see a list of dentist services in the city . You may then click on each listing to find out more about the service providers – how to contact or locate them.

The amazing feature about this application is that you get to see where the business is located on a map. This map is displayed on the Google Search engine. When you click on a listing, the map is magnified. From the map, there will be markers that mark the exact location of the businesses. You then select the one that is nearest to you (for the sake of convenience).

Not sure how to get there? You can even get directions directly from the Map. When you click on a listing, a balloon pops up on the map. The balloon contains basic information such as address. At the bottom of the balloon, there is a link that says “Get Directions”. Click on that, and then enter your own location. From the drop down menu, select your mode of transport – car, public transit, walking, or bicycling. The Map will then provide directions on how to get to your target destination.
